Some Lessons Learned from a Solo Canoe Trip
Rain wet to the skin is not drenched in tears. Smile and carry on.
Never throw an oar ashore before you follow. In the next few seconds you may need it.
The right hat in the rain makes a difference.
The best length of time for being alone is just to the point when you are ready to go back and have someone waiting
Older does not mean taking up no more challenges. I get to choose differently.
It’s good to go canoeing.
Tarps suck.
Knowing no one is near to help, being quietly attentive to everything to be safe is a working meditation.
Thunder is nice when it’s somewhere else.
So is lightning.
Tarps are great in the rain.
Sometimes there is no task. It’s time to just wait.
Thinking about being alone is lonely. Being alone is not.
A solo canoe is my new favourite thing.
Prevent things from flying apart by securing them to the ground. Good for thoughts too.
Bear hangs seem pointless… as long as no bear comes.
Tarps and I have a complicated relationship.
